About the Journal

 

The Journal of Indian Geophysical Union (J-IGU), published quarterly (January, April, July and October) by the Indian Geophysical Union (IGU), was started in 1997. It is an open-access journal, where articles can be accessed from the journal website. It subscribes to copyright, ethics and malpractice norms that are accepted as best practices by reputed science journals. J-IGU is committed to ensuring ethics in publication and takes a serious view of plagiarism including self-plagiarism in manuscripts submitted to the journal.

It is an interdisciplinary journal from India that publishes high-quality, peer-reviewed research in earth sciences with special emphasis on the topics pertaining to the Indian subcontinent and the surrounding Indian Ocean region. The journal covers several disciplines of earth sciences such as the Geosphere, its watery and gaseous envelopes (the Hydrosphere, the Cryosphere and the Atmosphere), and life (the Biosphere). It also publishes articles on Space and Planetary sciences. Researchers can submit results of their studies using geophysical, geological, geochemical and geochronological techniques and integrated approaches. Research articles focusing on area specific and problem specific theoretical, experimental, basic, applied and application oriented basic studies of local and regional importance are welcome in addition to novel ideas of use to the Global society.

The journal aims to promote exchange of ideas, enhance rates of publication in earth sciences among scientists in the Asian, South Asian and African regions. Besides full length research and review articles, the journal publishes news and views, opinion and report on scientific activity, personal information, book reviews, etc. The impact factor of Journal is assessed by CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources (CSIR-NISCAIR) (approved by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, India). The impact factor of the journal for the year 2014 is 0.313.
